Here is what another Q&A says in our Catechism:
Q - Who are to come to the Lord's Table? A - Those who are displeased with themselves because of their sins, but who nevertheless trust that their sins are pardoned and that their continuing weakness is covered by the suffering and death of Christ, and who also desire more and more to strengthen their faith and to lead a better life. 1) Does this describe you? Are you aware that your life doesn't measure up to God's standards? a) "Those who are displeased with themselves because of their sins." 2) Does this describe you? Do you trust God to pardon all of your sins, even those 'weaknesses' you may struggle with in the future? a) "but who nevertheless trust that their sins are pardoned and that their continuing weakness is covered by the suffering and death of Christ." 3) Does this describe you? Do you want to strengthen your faith and live a better life? a) "who also desire more and more to strengthen your faith and live a better life." 4) If you already participate in communion, do all three parts in this answer describe you as you participate to take communion? What does participating in the supper mean to you personally? 5) If you don't participate in communion, do the three parts in this answer describe you? If so, how would you feel about participating the next time you have a chance? If not, why do you think that, that is?
